What is CleanTech?

"Cleantech refers to any product, service, or process that delivers value using limited or zero nonrenewable resources and/or creates significantly less waste than conventional offerings."

—The Clean Tech Revolution

Clean technology is one of the fastest growing segments of the economy, expected to create thousands of new companies and millions of new jobs in the coming decade. Cleantech is a huge growing market that includes renewable energy, alternative fuels, green building, solar technology, environmental services, water purification, and recycling technologies. Cleantech represents new technology, processes, and business models that are designed to minimize or eliminate the generation of waste and pollution while improving operational performance, productivity, and efficiency. By definition green economy products and services are competitive with, if not superior to, their conventional counterparts.

The BayTEC Alliance believes that communities like the Oroville region that embrace the green economy by building on local strengths will benefit from business expansion and new job creation occurring in green industries. A number of cities and regions around the country have begun to aggressively develop and promote cleantech through various initiatives and the adoption of sustainability master plans, environmentally preferable purchasing policies, green building practices, and alternative energy programs. Development of a sustainable cleantech economy can be realized through a concerted effort by local governments to focus their attention and institutional resources on fostering the growth of the green sector.
